186 ENS Migration Agents
The Subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme) is permanent residence through an Australian employer. It is often the destination after a 482, but the rules on streams, occupation matching and timing are easy to get wrong. The agents listed here specialise in employer-nominated permanent residence.
What to know about the 186 visa
There are three streams. Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) is for someone already working in Australia on a 482; since November 2023 it no longer requires your occupation to be on a special list, and the qualifying employment can be counted across more than one sponsor in the same ANZSCO four-digit group. Direct Entry is for skilled workers nominated directly, often from offshore, and requires a positive skills assessment and at least three years of experience. Labour Agreement applies where the employer has a labour agreement, including a DAMA.
Most 186 applications run through TRT. Age (under 45) and competent English generally apply, with some exceptions. One timing trap: once your nomination is approved, the visa must be lodged within six months.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between TRT and Direct Entry? TRT is for people already on a 482 and needs no skills assessment. Direct Entry is for those without that pathway and requires a skills assessment and three years of experience.
Can I change employer and still qualify for TRT? Generally yes, provided the new role is in the same ANZSCO four-digit occupation group.
Do I need a skills assessment? Not for TRT. Direct Entry does require one.
Is there an age limit? Generally under 45 at application, with some exceptions.
